Term 1 2024 – Atmospheric Landscapes

Dates:

• 10th September – Play session! While this group grows, I will be running the kick stART course alongside it, so this first session, while I teach and settle the Kick starters in, will be fun and experimental. This is a very valuable, freeing session. Think comic book drama and exaggerated images! (If you can get to this session 15mins earlier that would be a great help!)
• 17th September –Lowry Study - listen to me talk quite a bit about one of my favourites. We’ll look at how Lowry mastered the industrial landscape around him and have a go at recreating a local scene in his style
• 24th September – Crack on with your own landscape project and be an artist
• 1st October - Be an artist
• 8th October - Be an artist
• 15th October - Be an artist

Options:

You can work in the medium of your choice, but please only use a medium that you have experience with. While I can always give tips along the way, this isn’t a term for learning brand new mediums. I will need to know your intended medium in time for the 3rd session, so that I can make sure I have sufficient materials for everyone.

You can create a landscape of your choice. I will have a range of reference images if you need more guidance.

A landscape might include industry, forest, urban, rural, coastland, mountains and anymore that you can think of, but please stay away from seascapes for this one.

Homework

Use this summer period to take lots of landscape photos. Don’t question your choices too much. If you like it – snap it! We can discuss them in September.
